However, we would like to point out two highlights that you absolutely must not miss, especially if you are staying in Maiori.
✅ The first event not to be missed is Ferragosto, the most authentic expression of the essence of the Maiori locals: on this occasion, in fact, the locals celebrate their patron saint, Santa Maria a Mare.
On 15 August, the town of Maiori is devoutly gathered around the celebrations in honour of the Madonna: don't miss the celebration, whose climax is reached with the traditional ‘run’ along the stairs leading to the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria a Mare.
In addition to the moment of religious faith, the day is made even more special by the fireworks show, which lights up the sky of Maiori, always leaving the numerous travellers who flock to the occasion astonished.
✅ The second major moment for the city of Maiori and, therefore, the second event you absolutely must not miss is the Gran Carnevale Maiorese, a celebration that brings the whole community together, a dive into traditions and an explosion of creativity. For decades, in fact, the streets of Maiori have come alive with colourful allegorical floats, bizarre masks and wild dance groups.
Behind each float, there is the passionate work of dozens of people who for months dedicate themselves to the creation of unique works of art in papier-mâché.
It is a magic moment when time seems to stand still and where everyone can indulge in the fun. If you are in Maiori during the Carnival period, you cannot miss this event: an unforgettable experience of music, colours and merriment, a true hymn to joy and life.
