First time on the Amalfi Coast? Here you will find the perfect guide to plan the best stages of your trip!

🧭 How to reach

Hotel Marina Riviera is located in Via Pantaleone Comite, in a very central position.

Amalfi is one of the most strategic destinations for exploring the entire Amalfi Coast. SITA Sud buses and ferries leave from here for all the towns along the coast, but also for more distant destinations such as Capri or Sorrento.
Below we explain how to get to Amalfi in the easiest way, depending on the means of transport you choose.

If travelling by public transport

✅ If you land at Naples airport, the first step is to reach Naples Central Station. You can do this comfortably with the Alibus, which runs every 15-20 minutes from 5:45 am to 11:45 pm.

✅ Do you prefer a more comfortable transfer, especially if you have bulky suitcases? Official taxis at the airport exit will take you to the station for a fixed fare, generally no more than €30.

Once at Naples Central Station, take a regional or Intercity train to Salerno: the journey takes about 50-60 minutes.

If you are travelling in spring or summer, you can also choose a scenic alternative and reach Salerno by sea, leaving from Molo Beverello in Naples.

📣 Remember: there is no rail network on the Amalfi Coast, so the last few kilometres will have to be covered by road or sea.

Remember that you can also reach the brand new Amalfi Coast Airport, just a few kilometres from Salerno. Here you will find all the information you need to reach the Amalfi Coast if your flight lands there.

✅ By bus with SITA Sud

From Salerno you can reach Amalfi by SITA Sud bus, leaving approximately every hour (reduced frequency on public holidays). You can find all the timetables here!

The buses stop at all the towns on the Amalfi Coast and will also be a great way to get around during your stay.

We recommend downloading the Unico Campania App, which allows you to purchase tickets directly from your smartphone. Alternatively, you can buy them in participating bars and tobacconists, easily recognisable thanks to the ‘Unico’ logo displayed outside.

Tickets cannot always be purchased on board, so it is best to get them in advance. Remember to validate your ticket before boarding. In Salerno, you can also find them at the station newsstand, just before the exit.

The stop for Amalfi is on the right, under the only visible bus shelter. The journey will take about 60 minutes: enjoy the ride and be enchanted by the scenery.

✅ By sea: Travelmar ferries

A popular option - especially in the warmer months - is to travel by sea.
From Salerno's Molo Concordia, which is about a 15-minute walk from the station, Travelmar ferries leave for Amalfi.
The journey is comfortable, scenic and gives you a taste of the beauty of the Amalfi Coast from the very first moment.
The service operates from spring to November, but we always recommend checking timetables and availability, as they may vary in the event of rough seas or bad weather.
By the way, here is our complete guide to travelling by sea!

If travelling by car
Reaching Amalfi by car means driving along one of Italy's most spectacular roads: the SS163 Amalfitana, full of bends, breathtaking views, and picturesque villages. It is a unique experience, but requires attention when driving.

🔹 From the North (Naples, Rome, etc.)
If you are coming from the north, take the A1 motorway and take the Angri exit. From there, follow the signs for the Valico di Chiunzi, a panoramic point that will take you towards the coast, passing through Tramonti and arriving in Maiori. From Maiori, you will reach Amalfi in a few kilometres, crossing a spectacular stretch of coastline.

🔹 From the South (Salerno, Calabria, etc)
If you are arriving from the south, we advise you to drive directly along the SS163 from Salerno: one of the most beautiful coastal roads in Europe.

Along the way, you will pass through Vietri sul Mare, famous for its artistic ceramics, and Cetara, renowned for its colatura di alici. Every bend will be a new vantage point to photograph, every village a little discovery.

🗺️ Things to see on your doorstep

Your central location allows you ample freedom of movement.
Just a few steps from La Suite del Cavaliere you will find:

📍 The Amalfi Cathedral

In the heart of Amalfi, the Cathedral of Sant'Andrea Apostolo does not go unnoticed. It stands majestically, dominating the square with its impressive staircase and neo-Moorish façade.

Founded in the 9th century by Duke Manson I, the cathedral has undergone numerous transformations over time, blending Romanesque, Byzantine, Gothic and Baroque styles. The interior, rich in polychrome marble and Baroque decorations, houses the crypt that holds the relics of Saint Andrew, which arrived in Amalfi in 1208.

The bell tower, built between the 12th and 13th centuries, is a distinctive example of Arab-Norman architecture, with its decorations in coloured majolica. Next to the cathedral, the Cloister of Paradise, built between 1266 and 1268 at the behest of Archbishop Filippo Augustariccio, is an oasis of peace and beauty.

Originally intended as a cemetery for Amalfi's noble families, the cloister features elegant pointed arches and a central garden with palm trees. Inside, one can admire ancient sarcophagi and medieval frescoes, precious testimonies to local history and art.

Please note that a visit to the Duomo requires an entrance fee of 3 euro.

📍 The Arsenal of the Republic

The Arsenal of the Republic bears witness to the city's glorious seafaring past. This ancient shipyard, dating back to the Middle Ages, is one of the few medieval arsenals still standing, offering visitors an authentic immersion into the history of the Maritime Republic of Amalfi.

Today, the Arsenal houses the Compass and Maritime Duchy Museum, where you can admire a rich collection of historical artefacts, including ancient compasses, navigation instruments and the famous Tabula Amalphitana, a code of maritime laws that regulated the commercial and legal life of the republic. The cross vaults and sturdy local stone walls create an evocative atmosphere, transporting you back in time.

The museum is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., offering ample opportunity to visit. The entrance ticket costs 3€. Admission is free for children up to 13 years of age, disabled people with certification and the over 70s.

📍 The "Via Maestra dei Villaggi"

This is an ancient path full of history and beauty, connecting the centre of Amalfi to the western hamlets as far as Agerola, passing through picturesque villages such as Pastena, Lone and, with a recommended diversions, Pogerola.

This path, once a vital route for the inhabitants of the area, is now a fascinating hiking route among lemon gardens, panoramic terraces and medieval rural architecture.

Characteristic plastered houses with arched loggias and barrel vaults alternate with majolica churches, witnesses to a past that is still alive. The lemon terraces, supported by drystone walls, tell of the centuries-old work of man in perfect harmony with nature. Due to a break, the stretch between Vettica and Tovere is currently not practicable, but the walk to Pogerola remains unmissable.

🗓️ Events not to be missed

Celebrations in honour of Saint Andrew
On 27 June, Amalfi comes alive to celebrate the Feast of Saint Andrew the Apostle, patron saint of the town and a central figure in local devotion.

This summer festivity, deeply felt by the people of Amalfi, commemorates the miracle attributed to the Saint in 1544, when it is said that a storm he unleashed saved the town from attack by the Saracen corsair Ariadeno Barbarossa.

The day is marked by moments of intense spirituality and tradition. The evening procession sees the silver bust of St Andrew, a work of art of Neapolitan baroque, carried in a procession through the streets of the city, accompanied by the faithful and the brass band. The climax of the celebration is the spectacular run up the Duomo steps: the bearers, dressed in red, run up the steps to the rhythm of Rossini's ‘Moses in Egypt’ march, to the applause and excitement of the crowd.

The celebration ends with an impressive fireworks display that lights up the sky above the city, providing an unforgettable experience for residents and visitors alike.

The Byzantine New Year
The Byzantine New Year is one of the most fascinating celebrations on the Amalfi Coast, which every year, between 31 August and 1 September, transforms Amalfi and Atrani into a living stage from the Middle Ages.

This historical re-enactment, conceived by historian Giuseppe Gargano in the 1980s and first realised in 1999, commemorates the beginning of the fiscal and legal year of the Byzantine Empire, of which Amalfi was an autonomous periphery.

The beating heart of the event is the ‘Corteo Storico’ on 1 September, with over 100 participants in period costumes parading from Amalfi to the Chapel of San Salvatore de' Birecto in Atrani, the symbolic place where the investiture of the “Magister of Amalfi” takes place. This honorary title is awarded to a personality who has distinguished himself or herself for his or her contribution to Amalfi culture or society.

In addition to the parade, the programme includes thematic conferences, shows, and moments of cultural insight, offering visitors total immersion in local history and traditions. The Byzantine New Year is not just a festival, but a journey through time that celebrates Amalfi's identity and historical heritage, making it an unmissable appointment for those who wish to experience the authenticity of the Amalfi Coast.

✅ The Historical Regatta
Every four years, Amalfi transforms into a unique stage to host one of the most fascinating events in the Italian tradition: the Historical Regatta of the Ancient Maritime Republics.

For the 2025 edition, the race is scheduled for 18 May, but this event is much more than a simple sporting competition. It is a true plunge into history, an experience that combines folklore, spectacle and medieval re-enactment.

The days leading up to the Regatta are punctuated by moments full of emotion: it begins with the Palio of the women's crews, followed by the majestic Historical Procession, which passes through the villages between Atrani and Amalfi, involving more than 300 participants dressed in medieval costumes.

The climax of the event is the rowing challenge between the four maritime republics: Amalfi, Genoa, Pisa and Venice. The mighty galleons, each with their own colours and historical symbols, do battle along a stretch of sea that seems suspended in time.

The manifestation is framed by a rich programme of side events: shows, live music and local tastings that enliven Amalfi and involve visitors from all over the world.

An appointment not to be missed if you are lucky enough to be in Amalfi at this very special time: you will experience first hand an explosion of Amalfi maritime pride!

Getting to Ristorante Da Teresa is part of the experience: a free shuttle bus leaves from Amalfi's Il Faro pier, taking you directly to Santa Croce beach, accessible only by sea.
