🧭 How to reach

Staying in Amalfi, especially in a central location like Residenza Pansa, gives you the priceless chance to move wherever you want and however you want without stress and worries.

From Amalfi, in fact, all services depart, both by sea and by road, to reach the other destinations on the Amalfi Coast.

Whether you decide to reach Positano, Ravello or even destinations slightly off the usual routes, you can do so without stress, deciding each time whether you prefer transport by road or sea.

The central location also makes your arrival in the area even easier, made even more convenient by the availability of private parking: bearing in mind that the great flow of visitors to the Amalfi Coast can make the search for a parking space considerably more difficult, this is a truly valuable plus!

Having said this, let's now move on to see how to reach your destination, travelling by car or by public transport.

If this is your first time on the Amalfi Coast, we recommend you also read this guide, where you will find lots of useful tips for organising your holiday in the best possible way.

If you travel by public transport

✅ From Naples airport, you can easily reach Naples Central Station with the Alibus.

Once at the station, you have several options:
🔹 you can take a regional train to Salerno,
🔹 or a SITA bus.

The latter will take you directly to Amalfi. Alternatively, during the summer months, you can consider taking a hydrofoil from Naples Beverello, also accessible by Alibus.

The hydrofoil journey is faster and more scenic, but is only available at certain times of the year, generally from spring until early autumn.

Arriving in Salerno, either by train or bus, you will find the SITA bus stop right in front of the station. These buses connect Salerno to all the towns on the Amalfi Coast. Buy your ticket at the ticket office or through the Unico Campania app and board the bus bound for Amalfi: sit back and enjoy the evocative journey, admiring the breathtaking scenery of the coast.

🔹 Alternatively, travel aboard Travelmar ferries
If you travel in spring, summer or early autumn, as an alternative to the bus, you can take the ferry.

Reach Molo Concordia, which is about a 10-minute walk from the station: here you can travel aboard Travelmar ferries: the last stop is Amalfi.

📣 We recommend this solution for two main reasons:
🔹 first, you will make the final part of the journey to reach your destination really pleasant and suggestive, as you will spend about an hour immersed in the evocative spectacle of the Amalfi Coast seen from the sea.
🔹 Moreover, travelling aboard ferries makes the journey faster and more comfortable, avoiding the crowds that can occur on buses (especially in high season) and the risk of traffic jams along the narrow and winding State Road 163.

Once you arrive in Amalfi, getting to Residenza Pansa will be easy: the property is located in the heart of the historic centre, a few steps from Piazza Duomo, in via Salita Dei Greci, 11.

If you travel by car

If you have decided to travel by car, an unforgettable experience awaits you when driving along the Amalfi Coast: driving along the SS163 is not easy, especially if you are facing this road for the first time.

It is a road that requires some steady nerves, but rewards you with the beauty of the landscape: it is like leafing through an open-air photo album, moving between breathtaking curves and glimpses of blue that take your breath away, passing through villages that follow one another like the pearls of a necklace, in a succession of unforgettable emotions.

✅ If you start from Rome, from the A1 motorway, head towards Naples and take the A3 towards Salerno. Once past the Salerno toll booth, get ready for an evocative journey on the SS163. This scenic road will take you straight to Amalfi, through tunnels, hairpin bends and breathtaking views.

✅ If, on the other hand, you are arriving from the south, join the A3 motorway in the direction of Naples and follow the signs for Salerno. From here, take the SS 163 and let the beauty of the landscape guide you.

🗓️ Events not to be missed

Byzantine New Year
Amalfi, with its narrow streets and colourful houses, is transformed into a medieval stage, where ladies in sumptuous dresses and knights in glittering attire parade through the streets of the historic centre. This is the Byzantine New Year, a unique event that evokes the ancient traditions of the Maritime Republic.

For three days, between 31 August and 2 September, Amalfi and Atrani dress up, immersing themselves in a magical and evocative atmosphere. Costume parades, theatrical performances, concerts and mediaeval banquets: every corner of the town is animated by historical re-enactments that will immerse you completely in a bygone era. Don't miss the opportunity to live an unforgettable experience and discover the historical roots of one of the most beautiful towns on the Amalfi Coast.

✅ The festival of Sant'Andrea
Every year, on 27 June and 30 November, Amalfi comes alive to celebrate its patron saint, Saint Andrew. This is an unmissable event that combines faith, history and tradition, involving the entire community in two moments of the year that are rich in meaning.

The summer festival, celebrated on 27 June, commemorates the miraculous rescue of the city from a pirate attack in 1544. It is said that a sudden storm destroyed the enemy ships, thus saving Amalfi. Since then, every year, the ritual of the ‘Manna’ is renewed, an oily liquid that is collected from the saint's tomb and distributed to the faithful as a sign of blessing.

The heart of the celebration is the procession on 27 June, during which the statue of the saint is carried around the streets of the old town. The most exciting moment is the ‘corsa di Sant'Andrea’: the bearers, dressed in red, run with the statue along the steps of the cathedral, in an atmosphere of great devotion.

The winter feast, on the other hand, which is celebrated on 30 November, commemorates the martyrdom of St Andrew. Here too, the town comes alive with processions, solemn masses and cultural events, offering visitors a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in Amalfi's medieval atmosphere.

These are very heartfelt moments, involving the whole town and giving the occasion to experience the sense of faith, tradition and devotion of the whole community: if you find yourself in Amalfi around these two dates, take the opportunity to experience authentic Amalfi!

✅ The Historical Regatta

Every four years you can relive the golden age of the Maritime Republics, when Amalfi, Genoa, Pisa and Venice ruled the seas and competed for commercial supremacy.
The Historical Regatta is a journey back in time that will transport you to that atmosphere, making you feel part of an epic competition.

Each year, the four republics compete in a Venetian-style rowing competition, evoking ancient rivalries and seafaring pride. As the Galleons sail the waters, colourful historical processions parade through the streets of the cities, recreating the medieval atmosphere. It is a unique spectacle, combining history, culture and sport, uniting thousands of people in one big celebration.

📌 Not to be missed

✅ A sweet break at the historic Pasticceria Pansa
Treat yourself to a sweet break at the historic Pasticceria Pansa, in the heart of Amalfi. Founded in 1830, this pastry shop is an institution, a place where time seems to have stopped.

Amidst golden mirrors and vintage furnishings, you can enjoy traditional delicacies such as the sfogliatella Santa Rosa, prepared to perfection according to the ancient recipe, and lemon cakes, made with the prestigious sfusato amalfitano.

And if you want to take home a tasty souvenir of your trip, we recommend the chocolate citrus peel, the artisan panettone and the stuffed mostaccioli: the first are made with local raw materials, cultivated at the pastry shop's farm, while the handmade panettone and colomba are made with natural yeast and are literally flying off the shelves around the holidays.

In this article, we discuss the art of pastry making on the Amalfi Coast.

✅ The Granita served in the sfusato Amalfitano
If you are a lover of good food, you probably already know how fine and fragrant our sfusato amalfitano is, which we also talked about in this article.

If you come to the Amalfi Coast, you should not miss a taste of some of the delicacies prepared with this ingredient with its unmistakable aroma and scent: the classic limoncello and the lemon delight are definitely a must.
But if there is one thing you really, in our opinion, must not miss, it is the lemon granita.

In Amalfi, go and get it at ‘A’ Sciulia', in Via Fra Gerardo Sasso, a few steps away from the Amalfi Cathedral: here you will find the classic granita served in a lemon peel, the protagonist of many photos on Instagram, which immortalise it with the iconic Duomo steps in the background.
