Villa Santa Maria

If you are planning a trip to the Amalfi Coast and are seeking something more intimate, elegant and with a breathtaking view, Villa Santa Maria – Luxury Suites could be your next favourite getaway.

Suspended between sky and sea, just a few minutes’ drive from the centre of Amalfi, this exclusive villa offers everything you need for a relaxed, classy and slightly out-of-the-ordinary stay.

The rooms? A few selected ones, all overlooking the sea, furnished with modern taste and designed to provide maximum privacy. Some have their own entrance and a terrace, others a furnished patio where you can sip a coffee while gazing at the horizon. In every room you’ll find air conditioning, a flat-screen TV and a stable Internet connection. But the real added value is outside: a terrace with a panoramic Jacuzzi that will make you forget the clock.

For those not satisfied with the view, there is also a private jetty equipped with sun loungers and deck chairs: perfect for a dip in the sea without the crowds. A sweet breakfast awaits you every morning, and if you feel the need to release your tensions, you can book a shiatsu massage directly at the hotel.

Villa Santa Maria is not for everyone: it is reached via a flight of steps (but there is a convenient shuttle service), and focuses on tranquillity, elegance and direct contact with the landscape.

In short, if you are looking for a villa on the Amalfi Coast that combines comfort, discretion and a view you will never tire of photographing, this, in our opinion, is a serious candidate.

🧭 How to reach

Villa Santa Maria is located in one of the most panoramic positions on the Amalfi Coast, suspended between the rocks and the sea on Via Giovanni Augustariccio, in Amalfi. It is only a few minutes by car from the historical centre, but enjoys absolute quietness, far from the most intense tourist flows.

A small corner of privacy overlooking the blue.
The property is accessible via a staircase, so the advice is to travel light or choose a comfortable luggage to carry. The effort will be repaid by the spectacular view and the feeling of being truly ‘out of this world’.

If travelling by public transport

✅ From Naples Airport, you can reach Naples Centrale station by Alibus or a fixed-rate taxi. From there, take a train to Salerno (about 1 hour) or, in the summer months, a panoramic ferry from Molo Beverello.
Beware: there are no direct train lines on the Coast. The last leg of the journey is made, as we shall see in this paragraph, by road or sea.

✅ From the new Amalfi Coast Airport
The new Salerno - Costa d'Amalfi International Airport (QSR), active since July 2024, is the most convenient alternative to reach Amalfi. Connected to 18 international destinations, it is served by Ryanair, easyJet, Volotea, Vueling, British Airways and others.

From here you can:
🔹take the Airlink bus to Salerno station (40 minutes, €5);
🔹board a Bus Italia shuttle (line 8) to the city centre;
🔹book a private transfer (NCC) or taxi (fixed rates, around €50 for Salerno);
🔹hire a car directly at the airport;
🔹use the Sita Sud direct line to the coast (bookable online).

You can find a full article here, where we explain all about getting to and from the new Costa d'Amalfi Airport.

✅ By bus: panoramic and convenient
SITA Sud buses leave from Salerno station every hour, stopping in all the towns on the Coast. Tickets must be purchased in advance (App Unico or authorised retailers) and validated on board. Sit on the sea side: the view is worth the price of the ticket.
Here you will find all the information on the Sita Sud service, including updated timetables!

✅ By ferry: the smart choice
In high season, Travelmar ferries from Salerno's Molo Concordia take 35-40 minutes to Amalfi. It is the ideal way to avoid traffic and enjoy the view of the coast. Trips are frequent and tickets can also be bought online.

If arriving by car
The SS163 Amalfitana is one of the most beautiful (and challenging) roads in Italy. Tight bends, stunning views, and villages suspended between sea and mountain: an experience to be enjoyed, but with care and steady nerves.

🔹 If you are coming from the north, take the Angri Sud exit from the A1 motorway and follow the Valico di Chiunzi, passing through Tramonti and Maiori. If instead you are coming from the south, take the spectacular coastal road from Salerno, passing through Vietri sul Mare, Cetara and Minori.

Villa Santa Maria does not have direct access by car, but offers two options for parking:
Free parking along the road (subject to availability, not bookable);

Private paid parking, located about 200 metres from the villa: the service includes car pick-up and drop-off, with rates varying between €35 and €50 per day, depending on the size of the vehicle.

Due to its somewhat remote location, we recommend that you contact the hotel in advance to better organise your arrival, especially in high season.

👍 Why we do recommend it

Villa Santa Maria is perfect for those looking for a charming holiday, with your feet in the water and your head free of worries. Elegant, quiet and with attentive service, it is the right choice if you are planning a romantic getaway with your other half.

✅ A postcard-perfect location... but with privacy
Villa Santa Maria is the ideal choice for those who want the best of the Amalfi Coast without sacrificing tranquillity. The property is nestled between the rocks and the sea, in a position slightly removed from the centre of Amalfi - which is still just a few minutes' drive away.

Thanks to its exclusive location and the steps separating it from the main road, it guarantees priceless peace and quiet, with a sea view that accompanies you from waking up until sunset. Forget horns, chaos and selfie-sticks: here you will find peace, horizon and privacy.

✅ Panoramic rooms and top services
Each suite at Villa Santa Maria is designed to offer maximum comfort in a refined yet cosy atmosphere. The interiors are bright and modern, with touches of Mediterranean design and well-organised spaces. Most rooms enjoy breathtaking sea views, and some have a private terrace or furnished patio.

The services? Air conditioning, Wi-Fi, satellite TV, a coffee machine and even a shared outdoor hot tub for a relaxing sunset dip. And there's no shortage of breakfast: hearty, served outdoors when the weather permits, with local pastries, fresh fruit and proper coffee.

✅ Private access to the sea: a true luxury on the Amalfi Coast
One of the hotel's real strengths is its private beach, equipped with sun beds and umbrellas. In an area where access to the sea is often limited or crowded, being able to descend directly from the rocks in a private and quiet stretch is a no small added value. No fighting for a place on the beach, no racing at dawn: just you, the sun, the sea and the chance to relax a few steps from your room.

A rare convenience that makes your stay even more exclusive.

🗺️ Things to see on your doorstep

We are not in the heart of the city, so to reach the main attractions you will need to travel by car, scooter or taxi. But no worries: some of the most iconic marvels of the Amalfi Coast await you in the immediate vicinity.
From historical monuments to panoramic footpaths and charming little villages, in this section we will guide you to discover the places not to be missed during your stay.

📍 The Santa Croce Beach

Just 700 metres from Villa Santa Maria is the Santa Croce Beach, a corner of paradise accessible only by sea. This small bay, nestled between the cliffs of the Amalfi Coast, offers crystal-clear waters and an intimate atmosphere, far from the hustle and bustle of the more crowded beaches.
This is the ideal place for those who want an authentic and relaxing experience, immersed in the natural beauty of the Amalfi Coast.

📍 Amalfi and its monuments

Staying in a secluded property like Villa Santa Maria, you are likely to choose to dedicate an entire day to visiting the historical centre of Amalfi, then spend the remaining days of your stay relaxing and discovering other villages on the Amalfi Coast.

As we also explain in this article, dedicated to discovering Amalfi in a day, the heart of the town is compact, easily explored on foot, and rich in artistic, architectural, and historical treasures.

The obligatory starting point is the majestic Duomo di Sant'Andrea, with its iconic staircase and arabesque façade dominating the main square. Inside, the Cloister of Paradise is worth a visit for its Arab-Norman architecture and timeless atmosphere. Next door, the crypt and the early Christian basilica complete a spiritual and artistic journey of great impact.

A few steps further on, in the heart of the city's alleyways, you will find the Paper Museum, housed in an old medieval paper mill. Here you can discover the history of the famous ‘Amalfi paper’ and watch live demonstrations of ancient handmaking techniques.

Also not to be missed is the Arsenal of the Republic, a concrete testimony of the town's glorious seafaring past. This exhibition space recounts, with documents and artefacts, the naval and commercial power that made Amalfi one of the most influential Maritime Republics in the Mediterranean.

📍 The Ferriere Valley

Discover the Valle delle Ferriere

If you are a trekking enthusiast and find yourself on the Amalfi Coast during spring or autumn, the Valle delle Ferriere is an experience not to be missed.

Located in the heart of the Monti Lattari, this nature reserve offers a unique micro-climate, protected from northern winds and characterised by high levels of humidity, which has ensured the survival of rare plant species such as the prehistoric fern Woodwardia radicans.

The most common route starts from Amalfi and winds along the Canneto torrent, passing through ancient medieval paper mills and watermills, evidence of the paper industry that made the town famous. The path, about 6.9 km long, is considered of moderate difficulty and takes about 3 hours to complete.

Spring, until the end of May, and autumn are the ideal times to visit the valley, due to the mild temperatures and the lower number of tourists. In summer, the shade offered by the vegetation still makes the route pleasant, but it is good to start early to avoid excessive heat.

Moreover, you are close to:
📍 Atrani, the smallest village on the Amalfi Coast. You can easily reach it on foot from Amalfi.
📍 Duoglio beach
📍 Capo di Conca

🎉 Things to do nearby

Just a short distance from your location, you can easily reach Amalfi, from where you can easily explore the most iconic destinations on the Amalfi Coast: Positano with its picture-postcard alleyways, Ravello with the panoramic gardens of Villa Rufolo, or even Maiori and Minori for a stroll along the seafront or a gastronomic stop.

But that's not all: if you prefer less beaten tracks, your base at Villa Santa Maria also allows you to venture towards quieter, more authentic localities, such as Scala, the oldest village on the Coast, or, on the other side, Conca dei Marini, Furore and Praiano.

If you are planning a longer stay, we highly recommend dedicating a day to a boat excursion.

Starting from the port of Amalfi you can reach Capri, sail along the coastline admiring hidden caves and fjords, or dive into the transparent waters of the bay of Conca dei Marini.

Some companies also offer tours with culinary stops and sunset aperitifs: memorable experiences that add an exclusive touch to your holiday. Here you will find a beautiful collection of the experiences we have carefully selected for you.
If you love good food, the Coast offers unmissable gastronomic experiences: traditional cooking classes, lunches in agriturismi, guided tours of vineyards to discover local wines.

For example, this tour among the vineyards of Tramonti can be an original way to experience the coast in a slower way, amidst glasses of wine tintore and authentic flavours.

🗓️ Events not to be missed

✅ The Byzantine New Year: a journey through time between Amalfi and Atrani
From 31 August to 2 September, Amalfi and Atrani rediscover their glorious past with one of the Coast's most evocative events: the Byzantine New Year.

This historical commemoration has its roots in the ancient calendar of the Eastern Roman Empire, which marked the administrative new year on 1 September. For three days, the villages come alive with costumed processions, mediaeval performances, symbolic ceremonies and a timeless atmosphere.

The highlight?

The investiture of the Magister of Amalfitan Civilisation, a solemn recognition awarded to personalities who have distinguished themselves for their connection with Amalfitan culture. The rite ends with an imposing historical procession through the city streets to the scenic Piazza del Duomo. An event not to be missed, especially if you love history, tradition and costumed events.

The Feast of St Andrew: devotion and tradition by the sea
Twice a year - on 27 June and 30 November - Amalfi stops to pay homage to its patron saint, Saint Andrew the Apostle. We are talking about one of the most popular religious celebrations on the entire Coast, capable of uniting faith and folklore in a choral rite that involves the entire community.

The most touching moment is the procession of the saint's statue, carried on the shoulders of Amalfi fishermen along a route through the city, amid applause, fireworks, and the sound of boat sirens in the harbour.

The final climb up the Cathedral stairs is a breathtaking and eye-watering feat. Between liturgies, celebrations and folklore, the feast of Saint Andrew is a dive into Amalfi's deep identity.

✅ The Historical Regatta of the Maritime Republics: challenge between giants of the sea
Every four years Amalfi returns to star in the Mediterranean with the Historical Regatta of the Ancient Maritime Republics. It is much more than a rowing race: it is a great spectacle-event involving Genoa, Pisa, Venice and, of course, Amalfi, in a challenge to the last row.

In addition to the regatta proper, in which crews compete on board galleons reconstructed on historical models, there are re-enactments, costume parades, fireworks and parties in the piazza.

The next event in Amalfi is scheduled for May 2025: if you happen to be in the area, don't miss it.

📌 Not to be missed if you are staying here

Da Teresa' Restaurant: a romantic dinner by the sea
On the beach in Santa Croce, mentioned earlier, is Ristorante ‘Da Teresa’, a traditional restaurant serving local seafood dishes, prepared with fresh, local ingredients.

The menu includes specialities such as paccheri con il coccio, spaghetti with mussels and clams, and grilled or acqua pazza fish, accompanied by typical local desserts. The restaurant is open every day for lunch and dinner, also offering bar service and sunbed and umbrella rental for a completely relaxing day by the sea

✅ Pasticceria Pansa: for a gentle break in the heart of Amalfi
If you are in Amalfi and want to treat yourself to a gourmet break that is also an authentic experience, a stop at Pasticceria Pansa is practically obligatory.

Located right at the foot of the Duomo, this historic pastry shop is a true local institution, loved by locals and travellers alike in search of authentic flavours and an atmosphere of yesteryear. The place retains all the charm of the old cafés: elegant furnishings, shop windows full of sweets and an atmosphere of yesteryear that invites you to stop and savour at leisure.

The must-try?

The famous Lemon Delight, a small masterpiece of Campania pastry making.
But don't stop there. If you love contrasts, you cannot miss the candied lemon peels covered in dark chocolate: a real explosion of flavour, also perfect as a gourmet souvenir.

Also excellent are the croissants, lobster tails and, if you are travelling at Christmas or Easter time, panettone and colomba cakes.

Whether you choose to enjoy it all seated at the tables outside overlooking the square, or buy some sweets to take away, Pansa is a place that tells the true Amalfi story: elegant, cosy and intensely linked to its gastronomic tradition.

It is also a must stop for some sweet treats to take home.
