✅ At Ferragosto don't miss two great classics: aubergine with chocolate and sandwich with spleen
Maiori's Ferragosto is a tradition so deeply felt by locals that living it is a truly unforgettable experience.
If you are lucky enough to visit Maiori at this particular time of year, you absolutely must get even more into the heart of the tradition, tasting its typical dishes: the aubergine with chocolate and the sandwich with spleen (in local dialect ‘o’ panino cu a‘ mevza’).
🔹 In the first case, we are talking about a dessert of indescribable deliciousness: thinly sliced aubergines, carefully fried (according to an ancient recipe) and covered with melted chocolate, candied fruit and sometimes almond hail.
We know that hearing the name of a vegetable combined with chocolate may turn your nose up at it, but trust us: the combination may sound bizarre, but the end result amazes everyone! Being the gourmets that we are, we talked about it in depth in a dedicated article (complete with recipe!).
🔹 As for the spleen sandwich, it is bovine spleen cooked in vinegar and seasoned with lots of garlic, parsley and chilli pepper: an authentic, old-fashioned local street food.
If you are a fan of street food, put it on your list of foods to try on the Amalfi Coast!
