Villa Punta Del Sole

Set on a lush cliff about 1 km from the centre of Positano and a 20-minute walk from Fornillo Beach, Villa Punta del Sole offers breathtaking views of the coast and the endless blue Mediterranean Sea.

You can choose between three independent accommodation options: the Rotonda apartment for 6-8 people, the Castelluccio for 2-3 people and the Studio for 2-3 guests. All are elegantly furnished with balconies or terraces overlooking the sea.

You will be welcomed into bright, carefully finished rooms with comfortable furnishings, fully equipped kitchens, bathrooms with every comodity, and outdoor spaces where you can enjoy a coffee in the morning or a glass of wine at sunset.

🗺️ Things to see on your doorstep

📍 The historic centre of Positano

The historic centre of Positano is a magical maze of narrow streets, alleys and steps that climb between pastel-coloured houses, offering picturesque views at every turn. It is the beating heart of the vertical village, a fascinating maze to explore on foot, without rushing, to savour the authentic atmosphere of this pearl of the Amalfi Coast. Along the way, you will find artisan shops selling custom-made sandals, handmade ceramics and beachwear, small treasure troves of local creativity immersed in a succession of steps and breathtaking views.

Among the unmissable sights is the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, with its majolica dome covered in colourful tiles: a visual symbol recognisable from afar, which embellishes the central square on the hill, overlooking the blue sea below. As you stroll along, you will lose yourself in charming alleys lined with boutiques, galleries and elegant cafés: every corner looks like a living postcard, where the scent of lemons and salt air mingles with the liveliness of artisan workshops.
In the evening, the centre is transformed: the lights dim, the streets come alive with a soft glow, and walking under the starry sky amid Mediterranean scents becomes an intimate and romantic experience.

📍 The MAR Museum

Created thanks to patient excavation and restoration work, the MAR is a genuine window onto a magnificent past: a frescoed triclinium dating back to the 1st century AD covers an area of approximately 30 square metres, revealing vivid colours and lively motifs in the Fourth Pompeian Style, which have remained intact for 2000 years.
The tour continues in the two overlapping crypts: the upper crypt, built in the 17th century and still standing today, houses 69 brick funeral drains, used to accelerate the decomposition of bodies – a unique example of historical funerary architecture on the Amalfi Coast.
Descending into the medieval crypt, you can sense the evolution of the place: columns, arches and naves tell of a religious past mixed with ancient funerary practices, reconstructing a layered dialogue between eras and cultures.

A visit to the MAR immerses you in a surprising architectural and historical narrative: from the evocative power of the frescoes to the silent rigour of the underground spaces, every room conveys the importance of Positano in ancient times, when the “villa d'ozio” was chosen by the Roman elite as a place to retreat and enjoy their free time in breathtaking surroundings.

The museum is open from April to October with flexible opening hours until 9 p.m. (November-March 10 a.m.-4 p.m.) and is located in Piazza Flavio Gioia 7, with a separate ticket office and entrance. It is best to book in advance to guarantee admission and a guided tour at the scheduled time.

📍 Fornillo Beach

Fornillo Beach is one of those places that manages to surprise even those who already know the beauty of Positano. Just 400 metres from Villa Punta del Sole, it can be reached in a few minutes on foot, down a staircase surrounded by greenery or, for those arriving from the centre, along a beautiful panoramic walk that starts from the small port.
The route itself is an experience, with views of the sea and silence interrupted only by the sound of the waves. Compared to the more famous Spiaggia Grande, Fornillo has a more intimate and relaxed atmosphere. It is about 300 metres long and composed of sand mixed with pebbles, with clear waters and shallow waters ideal for swimming in complete tranquillity.

Here, time seems to slow down: the natural setting is protected, the sea is calm, and the colours are those of the authentic Amalfi Coast. It is the perfect choice if you are looking for a day at the beach away from the crowds, immersed in a more authentic and welcoming environment.

The beach offers both free areas and Well-kept beach establishments equipped with sun loungers, parasols, showers and small restaurants overlooking the sea where you can enjoy fresh dishes and refreshing drinks. Among the pebbles and boats pulled ashore, you can breathe in the air of times gone by. In the background, the Torre Trasita, an ancient watchtower, adds a touch of history and drama to the bay.

📍 Borgo di Nocelle: located on top of the promontory of Positano, this is the highest and oldest hamlet. With over 1,700 steps connecting it to the centre, it offers breathtaking views of the coast and direct access to the famous Path of the Gods.
📍 Montepertuso: an enchanting village perched above Positano, known for the famous natural arch that pierces the rock above the village. According to legend, the Madonna created the hole with a divine touch. Today it is a peaceful retreat, perfect for breathing in the mountain air, reachable by a scenic walk or local bus.
📍 The Saracen Towers dot the coast of Positano: these are 16th-century defensive structures erected to signal pirate raids. Among the most fascinating are the Torre di Fornillo and the Torre di Trasìta, now visible from beaches and footpaths.

🗓️ Events not to be missed

✅ Ferragosto in Positano: tradition, fireworks and the sea
In Positano, Ferragosto is not just a date on the calendar: it is an occasion that fills the town with energy, devotion and entertainment. 15 August, the feast of the Assumption of Mary, is deeply felt by the local community, which celebrates the Madonna Assunta, patron saint of the village. The day begins with a traditional solemn mass in the splendid Church of Santa Maria Assunta, followed by an evocative procession that winds through the narrow streets of the town centre to the beach, where the statue of the Virgin is symbolically carried towards the sea.

But the real magic happens in the evening: hundreds of boats gather in the waters off Positano, illuminated by lanterns and soft lights, waiting for the fireworks display.

At 11.30 pm, the sky lights up in a blaze of colours and reflections on the sea, amid applause and wonder. Restaurants and bars come alive with live music, outdoor dining and traditional flavours. It is a vibrant night, where the sacred and the profane merge in perfect balance. Ferragosto in Positano is an experience to be enjoyed at least once in a lifetime, capable of restoring all the magic and soul of this unique place in the world.

✅ The Deposition of Christ: an ancient ritual in the heart of Positano
Among the most intense and moving celebrations of Holy Week in Positano, the Deposition of Christ is certainly one of the most evocative. This sacred ritual, deeply rooted in popular tradition, takes place on Good Friday in the Mother Church of Santa Maria Assunta, and symbolically re-enacts the deposition of Christ from the cross. In a solemn and intimate atmosphere, the crucifix is removed by hand, with slow, ritualistic gestures, and laid in a processional coffin.

The moment of the removal is accompanied by ancient liturgical hymns, soft lighting and an emotional silence that envelops the faithful and the curious. Immediately afterwards, the procession winds its way through the streets of the village: a long line of faithful, hooded brothers and religious figures carrying the dead Christ through the alleys and stairways of Positano, illuminated only by torches and candles.

It is a moment of great visual and spiritual impact, which also involves visitors with its dramatic intensity. The Deposition is not only a religious event, but also a collective ritual that unites the community in remembrance, faith and the austere beauty of Easter experienced with authenticity.

✅ The Luminarie di San Domenico in Praiano: magic of fire and devotion
Every year, between the end of July and the beginning of August, the small village of Praiano, a few minutes from Positano, is transformed into an enchanted place thanks to the Luminarie di San Domenico. The festival, which combines devotion and creativity, is one of the most spectacular on the Amalfi Coast.

For eight days, the entire historic centre – and in particular the small square of San Gennaro – is lit up by thousands of candles, torches and handmade lights arranged along stairways, terraces, roofs and walls, in a collective design that involves the entire village.

At night, Praiano becomes a luminous open-air nativity scene, with flames dancing in the wind and transforming houses into suspended lanterns. The celebration has ancient origins: it is said that San Domenico, founder of the Dominican Order, used fire as a symbol of faith and hope.

Even today, the inhabitants continue this tradition by lighting thousands of small flames every year. The programme also includes masses, concerts and fireworks displays over the sea.
